Technology and Kids

I was recently at my younger cousins last indoor soccer game. The place was really neat. It was a large facility with indoor soccer field, and basketball courts, indoor batting cages, and even an arcade. There was also plenty of room for kids, such as brother, and sister of kids playing games at the facility to run around. The first thing that I noticed while I was there was that every kid there was playing with either an i Pod touch, Nintendo DS, an i Pad, or even their parents cell phones. Kids as young as 3 or 4 had one of these forms of technology glued to their hand.
I thought to myself this is crazy! When I was growing up we did not have any of this stuff. I was always outside with my sibling and other kids in the neighborhood.  It is unbelievable how much technology has taken over our youth.  Yea these devices can be great keeping kids quite here and there, but it goes beyond that. kids are hooked. Between games, talking with friends, and even getting to social networking at younger ages.
It has been shown in studies that technology and young children can potentially lead to obesity. Not even taking into effect this study I notice a difference from when I was a kid to kids today. This also takes away from the communication aspect of these kids. Children today are not talking to one another as they used to. They are all messaging each other on their phones, talking and playing games against one another. These technological devices are taking away from the one on one connection we have with one another.
As great as these devices can be, I think we need to limit kid access. Let get our kids back outside! There is so much more to life than sitting behind a digital screen all day!
