Jennifer Hudson: A True Dream Girl

One of the few celebrities today that can actually be construed as a role model is Jennifer Hudson.  As a current client and spokeswoman for Weight Watchers, she has proven her strength through a life-changing weight loss.  As a vocalist, first as a fan-favorite contestant on American Idol, and now a Grammy-award winner, she has proven her talents.  And, even as an Oscar-winning actress in movies like Dreamgirls, she has proven her star power.  Most importantly, however, Jennifer Hudson has really proven herself to be an idol through her perseverance during a tragic time in her life.  In 2008, Hudson’s mother, brother, and nephew were murdered.  It truly is a miracle that she survived the ordeal, physically and mentally.

This crime was committed about four years ago, and is just going to trial now.  Jason Balfour is the man being charged with shooting, and killing, some of Hudson’s closest family members.  He was Hudson’s sister’s estranged husband.  Prosecutors believe that he murdered them once he found out his wife (Julia Hudson, Jennifer Hudson’s sister) was dating someone else.  Whether he did it as an act of revenge or out of mental insanity, what’s done is done.  It is now about time that justice is finally served to Hudson and her remaining family.  Remarkably, she plans on attending the trial every day, and is even willing to testify as a witness in this case against Balfour.  Since this will be yet another troubling time in the star’s life, she needs support and encouragement from her fans now, more than ever.

The amount of courage and bravery this woman has should be idolized.  Inspiring, influential women, like her, need to be appreciated in today’s society because they are rare.  In my opinion, through her rising, star-struck career, she has always been a strong, confident woman, who sets herself out to be an example.  Today’s society is full of celebrity breakdowns and addictions, but the public eye has never gotten as much as a glimpse of this drama from Hudson.  This is ironic because after all of the unimaginable things she has endured, a breakdown and/or addiction would be justified in her case, above any other celebrity.  The amazing thing is that she has remained strong and simultaneously has avoided trouble with her head held high through it all, and that is amazing.  She is definitely one-of-a-kind.
