Rick Santorum just announced that
he was pulling out of the presidential race. Technically he said that he is “suspending” his campaign, which
effectively (I would assume) is also suspending donations that keep it up and
running. So I think it is pretty safe to say that this is the end of the road
for Santorum. And I have to say, I am relieved. I personally did not think he
had much of a chance, or at least I had hoped he would not: despite Romney being
the obvious Republican frontrunner as of late, Santorum still proved he did
have a lot of supporters.
And, to be honest, the fact that he has lasted this
long was shocking to me considering his track record for saying so many controversial things, such as: his stance on abortion (which I believe he, as a
man, has no business arguing in) where, essentially, he is telling women what
to do with their bodies (i.e. keeping a baby conceived from rape instead of having the choice); calling Obama a “snob” when referring to higher education; being against marriage
equality; and his often completely contradictory statements that not only made
him look incompetent but proved to me that he simply did not know what he was
talking about (i.e. the JFK speech).
This of course is my opinion and I
understand that his beliefs and his stance on certain issues are all founded in
his own personal reasoning; however many of the things that he advocated for I
personally do not agree with, and the reason it bothered me so much was in the
way he said it. People
have different opinions on certain topics: that’s just the way it works. But
when what comes out of your mouth are just absurdities masked as arguments of
an issue that a lot of people care about, that is when one needs to be careful
of what they say.
